Key Components of Structured Cabling:

1.Entrance Facilities (EF):

  • The point where external service provider lines enter the building.

2.Equipment Room (ER):

  • Central location for network equipment like servers, switches, and patch panels.


3.Telecommunications Room (TR):

  • Houses the connection between horizontal cabling and the backbone cabling. Also called wiring closets or telecom rooms.


4.Backbone Cabling:

  • Interconnects different areas of the building, such as ERs and TRs.

  • Can be fiber optic or copper cables.

5.Horizontal Cabling:

  • Connects TRs to individual workstations or outlets on the same floor.


6.Work Area:

  • Includes user devices, cables, and outlets that connect end devices to the horizontal cabling.
